Growing up in a traditional classroom, students sat in desk, that were in rows, and listened to the teacher talk while students took notes. This is not how classrooms are set up today. Students are constantly moving and using technology in stations or collaborating over the computer.
As a parent, I look for schools that will provide my child with the technology they will need, so they are prepared for their future academic and professional experiences. In my children’s school, every student has a chrome notebook, which enables them to work from home and use their google classroom from any mobile device. They also create and build robots and programs for the computer. The school is a 21st century school with collaboration rooms and the school is also powered by solar energy. This is a great use of technology and the school is now saving the county over 8 million dollars a year. These are very innovated schools and they realize the importance of technology.
The use of technology can basically bring the world into the classroom. Teaching students how to use technology to learn, research, collaborate, and solve problems when they are in Kindergarten on up, helps students become prepared for the future. Through different networks, students can collaborate with classrooms from around the world which enables students to share different cultural and environmental experiences.
With the impact of technology in schools it is imperative teachers discuss and provide students guidance on what is appropriate and not appropriate When using of digital tools. Technology is far from silly and usually when someone believes it is not useful or it is focused on too much in schools, they are not open to change and will eventually be left behind.
