EXTRA CREDIT!
If you discover an additional unnoted term a classmate’s example illustrates, describe what it is.
POOR EXAMPLE
I picked acupuncture. A lot of websites try to sell the idea that it completely real. I think they are using weasel words and false analogies.
BETTER EXAMPLE.
I picked acupuncture. The wegbsite www.acupuncturetruth.com tries hard to argue it is completely valid. It uses many confusing terms like “cosmic balance,” “quantum interface of bioenergy.” This is an example of using TECHNOBABBLE. In addition they say that “A mystical energy called ‘chi’ flows through invisible channels i the body. This is like a river system. When a real river is blocked, bad things happen, like floods. When rivers of chi are blocked we get sick.” This is a FALSE ANALOGY, comparing mystical invisible rivers in the body with realy rivers of water.”
(Note the correct use of the CAPCON system. You must use the CAPCON system to get full credit!)

I choose the paranormal claim URINE THERAPY. The website https://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/salud/esp_salud06b.htmclaims the urine can heal and protect the body. The website uses a lot of TECHNOBABBLE such as “holographic substance”, “subtler vibrations of the soul” and “divine manifestations of cosmic intelligence.” The site states that “urine, as a holographic substance has the ability to affect all levels of being- from the physical, through electromagnetic fields of the emotions and the mind, up to the subtler vibrations of the soul.” This is an example of ONTOLOGICAL FUSION because it is taking psychological properties (emotions and mind) and giving them physical realities (electromagnetic fields) to explain how urine can affect the whole body. The site claims that clinical studies have proved that thousands of critical body chemicals and nutrients that end up in the urine reflects the individual body’s functions, when we reutilize the urine, these chemicals and nutrients acts as natural vaccines, antibacterial, antiviral agents, hormone balancers and allergy relievers. This an ARGUMENT FOR SIMILARITY because it is using a weak similarity between urine and its healing abilities. The website also uses FALSE ANALOGY to support its claim. It makes a weak similarity between modern science and spiritual ideas (FALSE ANALOGY) stating “Modern scientific research is discovering today that ancient spiritual ideas come very close to today’s most recent discoveries in the field of quantum physics and vibrational healing methods” (also MEANINGLESS JARGON).

I picked the FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER. I found a bunch of websites about it and decided to search the website https://www.venganza.org/about/. I watched a video on it that was provided on the website and a FAQ about their church and religion. This religion has the belief that we are created by the FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER after it was drinking heavily and when we die, we go to heaven which has a beer volcano and a stripper factory. They use a lot of WEASEL WORDS especially the word some. For instance, they believe that this is a evidence-based religion as well a faith-based religion. They used the word like “some evidence” or “some research has..”. Without giving us a source or any other information. They also called themselves Pastafarianiasm which I believe would be TECHNOBABLE. There are more examples of TECHNOBABLE like Fremont solstice, Wenches, Noodly appendage Etc. One thing they do the most is compare their philosophy to Christianity. They express that Christians do not have any evidence to back up their beliefs however many people still believe in Jesus. They compare that to their religion when they cant back up stuff from the lack of evidence such as heaven has beer volcanos. This is the term ARGUMENT FROM SIMILARITY.
