Learning Activity #1 – Developing a KM Strategy

Revisit your answer to the Learning Activity in Week 1. Why should management and employees care about KM? Now that you have the attention of your management, what are you going to do next? You will need a KM strategy. Since you’re starting from scratch and the organization has never had a KM strategy before, the CKO has asked you to gather examples of KM strategies developed by other organizations.

In a short memo (less than 500 words),

• 1) report on your efforts to locate specific KM strategies developed by organizations (preferably in different industries or sectors)
• 2) extract one or more Knowledge Management Strategy Statements and explain how the strategy is aligned with the organization’s mission (or not);

Develop a KM strategy for yourself (as an individual). What are you going to focus on? Making your knowledge more accessible/findable (i.e., cleaning up your files)? Developing your professional network to enhance your access to knowledge through people and conversations?
