The difference is that a cognitive theoretical orientation focuses primarily on cognitions and believes that they are the dominant forces driving social interaction and behavior, whereas a social cognitive theoretical orientation believes that cognitions are influenced by social interactions and the environment, and that these factors then guide one’s behavior.
