Then, click on model (left side). Now, refer to the first molecule in the assignment from your lab manual (which will be NH3). Notice that NH3 has three bonds and one lone pair. To show this in the virtual lab, click on an extra single bond (under bonding), then select lone pair. This is how NH3 actually looks in three-dimensional space. Click on molecular geometry under name (at the bottom left), and shape will appear. Record this information in your lab manual. Then, use information learned in the module lecture to determine whether this molecule is polar or nonpolar. Once you finish with NH3, click remove all on the virtual lab.

Now, refer to the next molecule in the lab (which will be CH3Cl). Notice this molecule has four single bonds and no lone pairs. To show this in the virtual lab, click single bonds four times. This is how CH3Cl looks in three-dimensional space. Click on molecular geometryunder name (at the bottom left), and the shape will appear. Record this information in your lab manual. Then, use information learned in the module lecture to determine whether this molecule is polar or nonpolar. Once you finish with this molecule, click remove all on the virtual lab.
