The collection of books or writings that are considered genuine and sacred that gives support to a belief or a church/religion is for me the meaning of sacred scriptures, plus it helps to confirm and strengthen the faith where God is the author and dictate his will towards humanity or his people. I would like to highlight from the video that it is true how people/ scholars easily believe what people/author(s) wrote hundreds of year after an event occurred in contrast to how easily can’t believe or asseverate the events written by the disciples a few years after what happened. Perhaps “time†doesn’t guarantee truthfulness, but if you compare a few years with hundreds of years, the error range increases tremendously. On the other hand, I think most sacred-scriptures are considered controversial, of course The Bible and the Quran are the most, since those books are part of the two worldwide main religions. For that reason scholars make an effort to study all kinds of manuscripts and translate them from the original. Biblical hermeneutic is a tool used by many in order to try to understand and study the principles of the Bible. For them the Bible should be interpreted literally unless a passage it’s obviously symbolic. Starting from that point, I think for interpreting any sacred scripture it’s important to know when is symbolic and when is more literally. People debate many passages because some take it too literal and others take it symbolically and that’s how controversies unleash. Actually, interpreting anything (not only religiously) it’s so difficult because a person can say a phrase and the listeners might analyze the context, the background, the intention, the meaning behind, etc. so at the end the outcome is going to be different because each person processes information differently. So for me that’s why the Bible and other scriptures are controversial because each person gives its own interpretation reason why there’re so many religions and denomination within each religion.
